Landing gear test
Got the X-Plane C-101 Aviojet landing gear animations working reasonably well now:
The nose-wheel needed to be textured and animated:
A tight fit but it now retracts nicely and the nose-wheel doors open and close to suit. It also follows the rudder steering but needs oleo-leg animations. The key to this animation is the X-Plane property:

sim/flightmodel2/gear/tire_vertical_deflection_mtr[0]
for the nosewheel with [1] and [2] being for the main wheels.
So, if we start by picking a number, say 0.08m (and why not?), we can create a 0.8m high helper-object in AC3D and then fiddle with rotate and translate animations to make the model fit this value.
